The Charterhouse started life as a Carthusian Monastery and it has been on its site near Smithfield Market since 1348. During the 16th century it was used as a large mansion house. It became a school at one point and has featured in many novels. Walk around The Charterhouse and gardens to be swept back in time to a bygone age. It is definitely a visit worth making.
